UKIP councillors vote against council tax increase

We voted on next year's budget at tonight's Madeley Town Council. The proposed budget requires a 1.4% increase in council tax. Myself and Ryan Laing were the only two councillors who voted against the council tax increase.

The services the town council provides to the local community are really important, especially when Telford & Wrekin Council and the British government are cutting services. However, when 10,000 people in the borough - over 6% of the population of Telford & Wrekin - have received support from Telford Food Bank in less than two years, it's just not reasonable to put up council tax.

Woodside Avenue gritting

We have had reports of Woodside Avenue not being gritted last night.

Telford & Wrekin Council's policy is to grit bus routes which, of course, Woodside Avenue is and it is on the list of gritted roads. We are making enquiries to confirm that it is still on the list and to find out why it wasn't gritted last night.

Update: The roads were gritted twice but had evidently frozen back over again.

Facebook campaign to save special Sutton Hill tree

Sutton Hill residents have started a Facebook page to save the tree planted in honour of a visit to the estate by the Queen in 1967.

The plaque and tree marking the occasion in Sandicroft are still intact 47 years after the visit but it's at risk from the council's regeneration programme prompting a local campaign to save it.
